Mediterranean Juniper Spice Blend
My entire childhood I grew up with a Juniper tree right in my front yard, ever fascinated by the periwinkle berries hanging off the branches, I was also equally terrified, as my parents warned me never to consume them. As Southern Italians, I don’t blame them for having this regard towards the Juniper tree, as the little flavorful berries are more commonplace among northern Italian cuisine.
I have decided to take matters into my own hands and bring together the bright, Mediterranean flavors of Southern Italy, with the rich, woodland flavors of Northern Italy, by combining toasted Juniper berries with orange peels & Calabrian chili peppers, perfectly bridged together by the two herbs every Italian would agree upon: Rosemary & Thyme.
